Re-Authorization Status of National Flood Insurance Program PDF  | Print |
NFIP Re-Authorization Status

The House of Representatives is once again dealing with the possible expiration of the National Flood Insurance Program.  The program currently operates under a one year authorization through Senate Bill 3814 which passed on September 21st, 2010 and expires September 30th, 2011.  The current House of Representatives bill could possibly authorize the program for as many of 5 years as it is proposed currently along with a host of other reforms to the program.

You can keep up to date on the current status of the re-authorization and the reforms by viewing the Library of Congress's webpage (Thomas.loc.gov) and typing (1309) in the search box.

The importance of this program is crucial to United States and to Lamar County and its Municipality's which are a part of the program.  Being able to be a part of the program allows our citizens to obtain flood insurance at reasonable rate as well allows the county to help prevent major issues from occurring from development that takes place in the flood zone.

Failure to pass legislation to re-authorize an extension could result in citizens not being able to purchase flood insurance as well as the possibility of not being able to renew the policy's they have if the about to expire.
